William H. Hudelson, b. 4-2—1810, Bourbon Co., Ky., the first child and son of David and Sarah (Donnell) Hudelson. Young William was nearly 10 years old when his parents brought him to Ind. where he grew to manhood in the area of Paoli, becoming in latter years recognized as one of the early pioneers of the territory. Another of the early pioneers brought a daughter into the area, and the two young people in the course of time and local social events became acquainted and attracted to each other. Donnell Hudelson, b. 2-7-1814 Nicholas Co., Ky., the son of David Hudelson and Sarah Donnell. Thomas Donnell was likely about 5 yrs. old when he was brought by his parents to Orange Co. Ind. , so he grew to manhood on the frontier of his generation. He met and married a girl born and raised in the same community of this frontier. Their children born all in this Ind. county, were growing toward adults while the community and nation were in the death struggle of the Civil War. Most certainly the two older boys served in the Union Army, and the lives of the older girls were affected also. Soon after the close of the war, this aging father moved with several of his adult children and his young minor children to a newer developing area known as Bates County, Mo., bordering on the western frontier state of Kansas. The family settled on a farm near the village of Adrian in the year 1867. The father died and was buried in Crescent Hill Cemetery near Adrian on 3-31-1876. CYRUS N. HUDELSON was born in Paoli Township. Orange County, Indiana August 19, 1832, and is the son of DAVID and SARAH (DONNELL) HUDELSON. His youth was passed without noteworthy event at work on the farm in summers and in attendance upon the schools in the winters, whereby he managed to secure a fair education. He selected farming as his occupation through life, and this he has followed together with rearing stock and shipping. He owns 240 acres, and has a comfortable home. In September, 1854, he married MARTHA C. HAMERSLY, who was born in Martin County, Indiana August 18,1833. Eight children are the issue: SARAH E., MARTHA E., LYDIA J., SAMUEL D., JAMES C., CYRUS A., MARY A. and CYRUS J. Mr. Hudelson from the first has identified himself with the Republican party, and has worked steadily for its success not only locally but on the State and national tickets. He is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and like all citizens of the county of his name is upright, capable, industrious and thoroughly honest.
