Her mother was Hannah, daughter of Governor Simon Bradstreet, and granddaughter of Governor Thomas Dudley. Mary Gilman was admitted to the church at Hampton, April 4, 1697. Children: 1. Jeremiah, with his brother Andrew and two others, was captured by the Indians at Pickpocket hill in the spring of 1739; they became separated and he never returned; it is said that he escaped and settled in Connecticut. 2. He was born in 1690, and was about 19 years old when he and another brother, together with William Moody and Samuel Stevens, were taken by the Indians May 8, 1709, at Pickpocket-mill in Exeter, and carried to the shores of the Winnepisiogee Lake. He fortunately made his escape, and reached home. After his son Winthrop settled in Gilmanton, he came to make him a visit, and went to the Lake, to see the place where the Indians encamped. Jeremiah, who in the spring of 1709 with his brother Andrew and two others, were captured by the Indians at Pickpocket Mill. Andrew soon escaped, and was told Jeremiah was killed, but when it was affirmed that after a tedious captivity he escaped to the Connecticut river and spent the remainder of his days near its mouth, his descendants being found near Hartford and New Haven.
