John Rice married TabithaStone, daughter of Deacon John Stone and Anna (?), on 2 November 1674at Sudbury, MA; (WARD indicates date of marriage as 27 November1674).1,3,2,5 John Rice died on 6 September 1719 at Sudbury, MA.6,7John Rice's estate was probated on 29 January 1719/20 at Wayland, MA.He died intestate. His widow Tabitha and son Moses were appointedAdministrators. Inventory taken Sept 17, 1719, "Widow Tabitha, beingaged and infirm, made oath at Weston."6 He resided in the part of Sudbury that is now Wayland, on the easterlyside of the road leading from Weston to Saxonville, and on part of thehomestead of his grandfather Edmund Rice, not far distant from 'thespring,' near which was the residence of his brother, Deacon EdmundRice. Hudson (1862), Ward (1851) andWard (1858) give the marriage date as 10 February 1681 which appearsto be in error. She lived in 1661 with Deacon William Ward andElizabeth. Bethia and Daniel Rice had their house fortified as agarrison house between 1711 and 1713.

Jacob Rice married Mary Barrett, daughter of John Barrettand (?) (?), in 1693.1,2,3 Jacob Rice died on 30 October 1746 atMarlborough, MA; aged 86y 8m 28d.4,5,6 He was buried at Old CommonCemetery, Marlborough, MA.5,7 He and Mary Barrett resided in 1694 at Marlborough, MA.4 On 12 October1733, Jacob Rice conveyed for £60, land in Brookfield to his son,Amos, that was laid out to said Amos, on the right be, Jacob,purchased of John Parsons of Brookfield.4 Jacob Rice left a will on 23May 1741, proved 10 November 1746. Anna Rice marriedThomas Rice, son of Thomas Rice and Mary King, on 10 January 1681/82at Marlborough, MA; (literally January 1681 per vital records, 11thmonth 1681 per Ward, but November 1717 per Rice Gen'l Register,apparently due to careless copying from Ward, who speaks of the 1717division of Marlborough in the very next phrase). Note that themarriage is found in the published vital records of Marlborough andnot those of Sudbury, contrary to the assertion in Rice Supplement 2Part 1. However, the marriage entry came from the county records andgives only one surname between groom and bride. Indeed,the marriage of a Dorcas Rice and John Walderne appears in thepublished vital records of Wenham, MA on 22 Sep 1680 (transcribed fromthe Essex County court records). The marriage is also entered in theSalem vital records, but with a date of 25 Sep 1679. Further, thatmarriage resulted in at least two children, sons Edward and Ebenezer,recorded at Wenham in 1686 and 1696, respectively. However, there isno evidence that the Wenham Dorcas is the same Dorcas shown here.Indeed, since Ebenezer Walderne was born at Wenham after our Dorcashad begun raising a family in Marlborough, we must conclude that theyare different.8,9 WFN: 26.
