Thomas1 Wiggin came to Hilton's Point (afterwards Dover), N. H., in 1631; and in 1632 went back to England to procure additional men and supplies. Howes's letter from England to Gov. John Winthrop, in 1633, calls him "an honest man about to buye out the Bristoll men's plantation in Pascataque"; and in another letter says, "You all have cause to blesse God that you have soe good a neighbour as Capt. Wiggin." He returned to Dover, landing at Salem, Mass., 10 October 1633, with " about thirty " emigrants, as agent for the new owners, the Puritan Lords Say and Brooke, and others, and eventually became an important owner in the patent. He was at the head of affairs in Dover, until superseded by Rev. George Burdett about 1637; and he favored union with MA. He removed to Hampton, of which he was Representative in 1645; and he was of the Court of Assistants, 1650 to 1664. With Elder Edward Starbuck, he built the first mills at Cochecho second falls, in Dover. He died about 1667. He had wife Catherine, and children, so far as is known (all three baptized 20 September 1641) : 1. Andrew2 Wiggin, born 1635, of whom see below. 2. Mary2 Wiggin. 3. Thomas2 W iggin, born about 1640; was of Dover, but later either of Hampton or Exeter, N. H. Ho married Sarah Barefoote, sister of Deputy-Governor Walter Barefoote, of N. H., who mentions her as his sister, in Will dated 3 October 1668. Thomas2 died about 1700. He had: 1. Catherine Wiggin, who married, 1st, Robert Tufton Mason (son of the Robert Tufton who took the name of Mason in accordance with the Will of his grandfather, Capt. John Mason, and who inherited the claim to New Hampshire) ; he was lost at sea in 1696, and she married, 2d, her cousin Simon8 Wiggin, son of Andrew2, and died about 1738. 2. Sarah Wiggin, married Henry Sherburne. Unless he was son of John Sherburne, it is difficult to identify him. 3. Susanna8 Wiggin married - Johnson. (Susanna, wife of John Johnson, of Andover, Mass., died 12 September 1683.) 4. Thomas8 Wiggin, of Sandy Point, who died 7 March 1726-7, having had seven sons, ancestors to numerous descendants. Probably Capt. Thomas1 Wiggin had other children. It is said that he had a daughter Sarah, who married Henry Sherburne; but the Sarah who became wife of the first Henry Sherburne was the widow of Walter Abbot, and was born as early as 1617. Probably the tradition mistakes such a Sarah for Sarah8, daughter Thomas- as above. See note to Dorothy3 (17) Wentworth. Andrew2 Wiggin, son of Thomas1 as above, was taxed in Dover, N. H., in 1659, but resided in Exeter. He married Hannah, daughter of Governor Simon Brad- street (who married, 1st, Anne, daughter of Governor Thomas Dudley, the mother of all his children, and 2d, 6 June 1676, Ann, daughter of Emnnuel Downing, and widow of Capt. Joseph Gardner). Andrew2 died 9 February 1709-10. In his Will he left land to his grandson Samuel4 Wentworth. He had : 1. Thomas3 Wiggin, born 5 March KXil-2; married Martha Denison, daughter of John Denisou, of Ipswich, Mass, (by his wife Martha, daughter of Deputy-Governor Samuel Symonds, of Ipswich), and granddaughter of Major-General Daniel Denison (by his wife Patience, daughter of Governor Thomas Dudley). He died in early life, leaving but one child, Hannah4 Wiggiu. His widow married, 2d, July 1(8(3, Capt. Jonathan Thing, of Exeter (who died 31 October 16!>4), and 3d, Matthew \Vhipple, of Ipswich, Mass., and she died 12 September 1728. 2. Simon3 Wiggin, born 17 April IflH. His first wife is not known: his second was his cousin Catherine8 (VViggin), widow of Robert Tufton Mason as aforesaid. He died about 1720, having had three children, one of whom, only son, Lieut. Simon4 Wiggin, born 12 August 1701, married Susauna Sherburne, born 13 March 1703, and died 9 July 1763, having had seven children, whose descendants are numerous, 3. Hannah3 Wiggin, born 10 August 1666; married Samuel8 (12) Went- worth, as above. 4. Mary3 Wiggiu, born 16(38; married Capt. Jeremy Gilman, born 31 August lt>60, sou of Moses, and grandson of the first Edward Gilman, of Exeter. 5. Abigail8 Wiggin married William French, of Stratham. N. H. 6. Andrew8 Wiggin, born 6 January 1671-2; married twice (probably 1st, 2 September 1697, Abigail Follet, of Dover), and had seven children. He was Speaker of the NTew Hampshire House, and Judge of Probate for the Province. He died about 1736. (See probate of W7ill of Paul8 (32) Weutworth.) 7. Dorothy8 Wiggin, said to have married a Gilman, but none such appears in the Gilman. Genealogy. 8. Bradstreet8 W'iggin, born 25 March 1675-6; married, 21 August 1697, Ann, daughter of Joseph and Rachel (Partridge) Chase, of Hampton, N. H., born 9 January 1676-7 ; he died 18 January 1708-9, having had four children. 9. Sarah8 W iggin married W illiam Moore ; ancestress of the late Jacob B. Moore, of Concord, N. It is probable that all three of these deaths occurred in 1690, as Samuel, Jr., was married again at Boston, Nov. 12, 1691, to Miss Elizabeth Hopson. And perhaps all died of small pox. In the Boston record of deeds, sometime between 1697 and 1703, his wife's name is changed from Elizabeth to Abigail, widow of Capt. Christopher Goffe, (Mariner) whose children were Daniel Goffe, m. Elizabeth , and Rachel m. William Patridge. His first wife is supposed to have been Hannah, dau. of Andrew Wiggin of N. Hampshire. Samuel3. Mr. Fitch preached the funeral sermon, which was printed and is now in the hands of Ebenezer Wentworth,' Esq., of Portsmouth, N. H., and it was dedicated to her son Gov. John. Please check other sources before accepting my information. I update the RootsWeb information often. I have tried to find the names of my female ancestors, some lost to history. It takes a HEAP of research into allied families to (sometimes) find their original birth name since many were married several times. Please let me know if you see any familiar There is usually a complete tree posted in a family, if you go back far enough. Sometimes it takes charting out an entire family just to figure out where my family fits in (or DOESN'T!). I start by getting clues on the web, then researching them further in books and other sources. Of course, I haven't gotten to everyone, this is an organic process, I am constantly adding names, correcting, deleting, and supplementing information.
