Born ‎07 Feb 1814 Nicholas County, Ky, died ‎31 Mar 1876 Bates County, Mo‎, 62 years, buried ‎after. 31 Mar 1876 Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian, Bates, Mo
Donnell Hudelson, b. 2-7-1814 Nicholas Co., Ky., the son of David Hudelson and Sarah Donnell. Thomas Donnell was likely about 5 yrs. old when he was brought by his parents to Orange Co. Ind. , so he grew to manhood on the frontier of his generation. He met and married a girl born and raised in the same community of this frontier. Their children born all in this Ind. county, were growing toward adults while the community and nation were in the death struggle of the Civil War. Most certainly the two older boys served in the Union Army, and the lives of the older girls were affected also. Soon after the close of the war, this aging father moved with several of his adult children and his young minor children to a newer developing area known as Bates County, Mo., bordering on the western frontier state of Kansas. The family settled on a farm near the village of Adrian in the year 1867. The father died and was buried in Crescent Hill Cemetery near Adrian on 3-31-1876. He was only a boy when in 1863 he enlisted in the Fifty-Third Indiana Infantry serving through the remainder of the war. He came to Macon county in 1870, and on Dec. 24, 1874, he and Miss Mary Elizabeth Mier of Decatur were married. Her death occurred in 1888. Calhoun when he learned of the death of Mr. Hudelson. 'He was only sixteen years old, if I remember right, but he had a chance to see the elephant before he got through, as did all the boys who served the last year of the war. It was then that much of the real fighting was done. Bob Hudelson was a favorite in Dunham post. He was good company and everybody liked him.' "Relatives. Edward Millis Hudelson, b. 7-28-1851 in Orange Co. Ind., the seventh child of ten born to Thomas D. and Lydia (Elrod) Hudelson. James Elkana Hudelson, b. 5-23-1860 Orange Co. Ind., likely near the town of Paoli. The youngest child of Thomas Donnell Hudelson and Lydia (Elrod) Hudelson, farmers in that community. His birth occurred not long before the start of the Civil War. After the war in 1867, the parents gathered their children and immigrated to the frontier community of Adrian, MO., in Bates Co., which formed part of the western boundary of MO. adjacent to the new frontier state of Kansas. Here James E. received most of his education and learned to farm from his father and neighbors. Somewhere in these maturing years he met and formed a strong attachment to a certain young lady in the community. He persuaded her to take the vows of marriage with him, probably in their local church, on 10-25-1883.
